Initiatives
The supply of quality labor is a critical issue across
the United States. The area economic development organizations, the
Iowa City Area Development Group and Priority One have initiated
multiple workforce business services to help companies with
employee recruitment, including a number of materials for specific
recruiting purposes. At the same time, a comprehensive program
encourages former Iowans to return to our state for employment.

The Web site, www.corridorcareers.com, allows companies to provide
information on immediate job openings for their business. For a
nominal fee, companies can post positions and/or search the resume
database available.
All of our workforce-related
communications direct jobseekers to the Corridor Careers Web site. It
averages over 38,000 visits each month and is the first choice for
people to search for jobs on-line in the area.
College and Technical
School Visits
Priority One visits universities, colleges and technical schools
throughout the Midwest. It promotes the job opportunities and
quality of life offered in the Cedar Rapids area. The visits often
include attending a career fair hosted by the college or making
presentations to students during class time.
Employment Directory CD
ROM
Priority One, in partnership with the Iowa City Area Development
Group, develops an annual Employment Directory CD-ROM. The CD is
available for businesses to promote job openings. It provides a
short description of the company, the types of jobs available and
contact information. This CD-ROM is distributed to potential job
seekers at universities and colleges across the Midwest.
Click on My Career
The Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce has developed a Web site,
www.clickonmycareer.com, targeted towards high school
students. It informs students about the various types of career
opportunities available within the Cedar Rapids area and the skills
needed to obtain those positions.
Iowa Workforce Development
(IWD) contributes to Iowa's economic growth by offering jobseekers services to assist their career and job search. In conjunction with state and local economic development efforts, IWD also assists businesses fulfill their workforce needs with a variety of recruiting services.
Kirkwood Community College
Kirkwood not only creates our future workforce, but also helps employers in its seven-county area locate and train those valuable employees through an array of career services.
Skills Advantage
Kirkwood offers the Skills Advantage Work Ready Certificate, a portable credential that certifies workers who have essential skills for success in the workplace. The certificate validates work readiness and distinguishes workers. The program is based on the nationally-recognized WorkKeys® assessment tests developed by ACT. Skills Advantage assessments test in three CORE areas: Reading for Information, Locating Information and Applied Mathematics.
